Barcelona Mill

Stora Enso’s Barcelona mill is located about 20 km northwest of the city of Barcelona Spain, near the Llobregat river. It produces White Lined Chipboard (WLC) based on recycled fibres. It is part of the Packaging Boards Division, Carton Boards business unit.

The mill was founded in 1964 and started operations in 1968 by producing  around 20.000 tons of board. The current capacity is 160.000 tons per annum.

Other facilities encompass an efficient sheeting plant with three sheeters, a new 8,000 m2 warehouse and a 49 MW cogeneration plant fueled with natural gas. It supplies steam and electricity to the mill while selling its excess electricity to the national grid.

The board is made from recovered paper such as white waste, newspapers, magazines, telephone directories, household collection and tetrabricks. These materials are mainly collected in the Barcelona area. The board is coated on both sides. Some virgin fibres (about 10% of total raw materials) must be added in order to meet our high quality standards.

Cartiberia, a Stora Enso sheeting plant is located adjacent to the mill. Board produced in Finland, Germany and Sweden is cut in the plant and sold mainly in Spain but also in Portugal, France and Italy.

The Sales department markets the board made in the mill and the cartonboards made by the Group.
