Stora Enso recognised as world leader in combatting global warming

STORA ENSO OYJ PRESS RELEASE 24 January 2017 at 12.00 EET

Stora Enso has been identified as a global leader for its actions and strategies in response to global warming. The group has been awarded a position on the Supplier Climate A List by CDP, the international not-for-profit that drives sustainable economies.

Stora Enso is among 3% of corporations participating in CDP’s supply chain program to be awarded a position on the Supplier Climate A List. Over 4 300 companies submitted annual supply chain climate change disclosures to CDP for independent assessment against its scoring methodology.

Stora Enso is also the only Nordic company to be included in CDP’s Supplier Engagement Leaderboard. Only 1% of companies analysed by CDP are supplier engagement leaders driving change in their supply chains.

We believe that the key to combatting global warming is the use of renewable materials” says Noel Morrin, EVP Sustainability at Stora Enso. ”For over a decade, Stora Enso has actively reduced the energy intensity of its operations and in many places, also its dependency on fossil fuels. Today, over 75% of the energy the group generates and uses comes from carbon neutral sources. In recent years we have also started to work on our supply chain emissions.”

CDP’s chief executive officer Paul Simpson says: “We congratulate the 112 Supplier Climate A List companies that are leading the charge towards our low carbon future. Companies are key actors in enabling the global economy to achieve its new climate goals, and the leadership of this group points the way for others to take bold action and capitalize on the many opportunities that await.”

The Supplier Climate A List is released in CDP’s Missing link: Harnessing the power of purchasing for a sustainable future report. The report reveals that the world’s largest purchasing organizations are using their buying clout to drive down emissions across their supply chains, with 434 million tonnes of CO₂e reductions – equivalent to more than France’s annual GHG emissions. The Supplier Climate A List is available on CDP’s website.
