Stora Enso's Ingerois Mill, which produces high-quality coated folding boxboard for the consumer packaging industry, has received the 2003 Finnish Quality Award in the Units category. The award was presented to the winning company by Mrs Tarja Halonen, President of the Republic of Finland, in a ceremony held in Helsinki on Thursday 9 October.
The jury noted in its adjudication that the mill's strategy and production process are well adapted to the operating environment. The organisation focuses on its core business and utilises synergies with stakeholders effectively.
The jury commended the mill for its customer focus and results orientation, which are Ingerois Board Mill's primary goals forming the backbone for mill operations, values and results. "The mill's excellent performance is clearly based on good approaches and continuous improvement," the jury concluded.
Ingerois Mill, which has been operating in the same field since 1872, represents a traditional, highly competed board industry. Through constant improvement of initially sound operations and strong corporate support, the mill has become one of the most efficient and productive mills in its field in the world.
"The Quality Award conferred on Ingerois Board Mill is a tribute to how we have continually developed and improved our operations. We know what our customers need, we know what our strengths are and we have taken the right decisions," says Mill Manager Martti Rautoja.
The award to Ingerois Board Mill continues Stora Enso's outstanding record in the competition: it is the fourth win by a Stora Enso unit. The earlier winners are Enso Publication Papers Oy Ltd, Veitsiluoto Mill in 1998, Laminating Papers Oy in 2000, and Stora Enso Oulu Mill in 2001. There were 15 entries in four categories in this year's Quality Award competition, which was being held for the thirteenth consecutive year.
