In sync with e-commerce

With the explosive growth of e-commerce and changing expectations regarding consumer experience, transparency, efficiency and security, companies need to adapt the way they design, market and deliver products and services.

In response, Stora Enso has probed into consumer preferences on the one hand, and retailer needs on the other, to define and enlighten innovation and product development in its renewable packaging solutions.

Packaging makes a difference
Among the findings, 95% of consumers say that the packaging affects the online purchase experience and less than 50% felt that the packaging of recent purchases lived up to the quality of the product ordered. Factors that affect impressions of the packaging include overall design, ease of unpacking or re-packing, feeling of quality, perception of excessive waste, possibilities for recycling or re-use, and eco-friendliness.
Retailers, for their part, are trying to satisfy these consumer expectations while also meeting criteria for efficiency, security and sustainability in the supply chain. The right packaging can serve to make the pick-and-pack process easier and faster, minimise excess filling and air, as well as improve consumer experience.

Smart, economic and environmentally-friendly
In this light, Stora Enso has launched e-TALES, an online retail packaging portfolio designed to provide smart features for the consumer and improved economic and environmental performance for the retailer.
"The rise of e-commerce has altered the traditional way of doing business. Through our e-TALES suite of products, we can offer a set of flexible packaging solutions produced to enhance the consumer experience, enable branding possibilities, while also responding to demands in the logistics chain. Moreover, all e-TALES packaging designs are produced from renewable materials," says Björn Thunström, SVP Marketing & Innovation, Stora Enso Packaging Solutions.
Product lines in the e-TALES portfolio include e-TALES Packaging, consisting of packages geared towards online retailers for easy packing, opening and return; e-TALES Utilities, targeted towards logistical centers to help organise and structure the workflow; and e-TALES Services, focusing on solutions for automation and intelligent packaging. E-TALES also provides solutions for increased brand exposure for the online retailers.
For the end-consumer, there are features such as easy open and simple sealing, specialty protective packaging for suits and dresses, easy carry handles, and reusable gift boxes.
