Water for Life is a Scandinavian book for children, young people and, last but not least, politicians on water, peace and a hopeful future. In the book, you can follow the droplet Gutta in the Water Cycle, i.e. the hydrologic cycle. Gutta guides an expedition in Norway and Lake Mjösa, the largest lake in the country. Stora Enso Fine Paper supports the project.
Water for Life is the second book about the droplet Gutta. The first book, Water, was elected the Children’s Book of the Year 2006 by WWF (World Wildlife Foundation). Both books have been produced by the publisher Hummer in co-operation with NIVA (Norwegian Water Research Institute) and several other companies, one of them being Stora Enso.
The preface of Water for Life was written by Dr. Rajendra K. Pachauri, who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007, together with former Vice President of USA Al Gore, who also sends his greetings through the book.
Life on earth originated in the sea. During billions of years of evolution different life forms developed. At the end of this process, man was “created” – a creature made of 70% water! We are therefore an integral part of the natural water cycle.
The author and project leader Stefan Docksjö says: “The book aims at increasing knowledge about the water cycle among children and young people. It is vital that they understand that clean water is a prerequisite for all living creatures. We want them to be engaged in water and the environment, both locally and globally.
It was very important to choose a reliable paper producer that works hard and continuously to decrease its impact on the environment, and at the same time keeps a high product quality level. To us, Stora Enso and LumiSilk were the natural choices”.
