What is the carbon footprint of general fibre based packaging material?

The UK-based organisation Carbon Trust defines carbon footprint as follows: "the total emissions of greenhouse gases from a product across its life cycle, from the raw material production, manufacturing and distribution to disposal, excluding emissions from use of the product”.
In the case of packaging materials, we can report cradle-to-gate or gate-to-gate emissions of fossil CO2 and other green house gases. These emission figures are not same as the final product's carbon footprint.
