What can the forest industry do to mitigate climate change?
Growing forests bind CO2 emissions in photosynthesis. When forest products are recycled carbon is bound in products for a longer period. After recycling, when fibres have lost their properties, materials can be used as a source of bioenergy. In addition, forest industry processes provide lots of bioenergy which replaces fossil energy. Fibre-based products offer an attractive alternative to many competing materials in respect of eco-efficiency, thanks to their recyclability and lower impact on climate change, due to renewable raw material and high amounts of bioenergy in their production.
