Multifuels reducing emissions
challenge: how can we reduce CO2 emissions and improve energy efficiency?
solution: use multifuels in the energy production.
Stora Enso Publication Paper is increasingly looking into multifuels as a means to tackle high energy costs in Europe. Publication Paper already operates reliable and high performance multifuel power plants at its production units in Finland, Sweden, Belgium and Germany. These power plants are able to make use of biomass-based materials such as recovered wood, package-derived fuel (PDF) and forest residues.
“Stora Enso has set a Group-wide target of reducing fossil CO2 emissions per sales production unit with 20% by 2020. Since the emission results from biomass burning are considered CO2 neutral, the use of biomass-based multifuels in internal energy generation will support us to reach this target,” says Valkiria Celestino, Multifuels Manager, Stora Enso Publication Paper.
Next year two new top-of-the-range multifuel power plants will start at Langerbrugge Mill in Belgium and Maxau Mill in Germany. The new power plants will further boost the energy efficiency measures at Publication Paper’s mills in Europe and help in bringing down energy costs.
