Revealing the strengths and weaknesses of paper

Consistent quality at the right level is a must for satisfied customers. Stable and cost-efficient production is a prerequisite for happy papermakers. Applied methodology is about satisfying both these categories.

The main tasks for Applied methodology are developing methods to increase the understanding of the cause-and-effect relationships in papermaking and printing, and methods for improving production efficiency.

For these purposes we use sophisticated equipment and tools as well as advanced test and analysis methods. High speed video is used to analyse the performance of paper and board in printing presses and paper machines. Other measurement tools give us the links between paper performance in printing, different paper properties and paper production processes. The Advanced Total Paper Analyser, ATPA, is one example.

Advanced mathematical and statistical methods are combined with a good understanding of applied mathematics, physics, chemistry, and solid and fluid mechanics.
