The secret behind the perfect base paper
The key to high-quality paper is consistent grammage, and the Advanced Total Paper Analyser (ATPA) is one of Stora Enso’s secret weapons in the quest for the perfect paper. Stora Enso is the only papermaker in the world with this unique, patented equipment and analysis method.
The ATPA is located at Kvarnsveden, Sweden, and is a kind of giant scanner that scrutinise a complete roll of paper or board with extreme precision. The results are presented as a graphic pattern that shows every variation in grammage throughout the whole roll.
The unique thing about ATPA is that the appearance of the patterns shows where in the paper machine a problem originates. In this way, the engineers can pinpoint any weaknesses in the machines and investments in improvements can be optimised.
