Product focused resources for enhanced value creation
The improvement of existing products and production processes, and the development of new products and services to customers are the key drivers for Research and Development (R&D) within Stora Enso.
Our R&D efforts are market driven and managed as an integrated part of the company’s business. The aim is to create business excellence for Stora Enso by creating value through science, technology, and innovations. Research activities are based upon close co-operation between customers, production units and Research Centres, to provide services that require scientific and technical sophistication and advanced equipment.
R&D resources are organised in product groups for Fine Paper, Packaging Board and Publication Papers respectively. Each group is responsible for the planning and implementation of programmes and for developing the capabilities required to achieve the R&D goals.
Each group covers the entire value chain from raw material, paper and board manufacturing, print quality, pressroom runnability, and converting with special focus on our customers’ value chains.
To keep abreast of the latest research and to ensure an influx of new ideas, we maintain close contacts with a wide network of universities, institutes, and other R&D organizations.
Development in the first stages of the value chain, e.g. machine technology, is performed in close co-operation with our suppliers and collaborating research institutes, whereas our in-house R&D focuses on integrating technologies and functionalities into new materials and customer-oriented solutions.
