We curb climate change on a global scale

At Stora Enso, we believe that the key solutions to control climate change will be based on greater use of renewable raw materials, efficient use of energy, and cleaner and more efficient production processes.

We do it naturally
We contribute to mitigating climate change through our unique product life cycle.

Our main raw material, wood, is renewable and recyclable, while forests act as carbon sinks. Sustainably managed growing forests sequestrate CO2 from the atmosphere and store it as carbon. This carbon is further stored in our products. Our products have a much smaller carbon footprint than similar products made of non-renewable materials. These products can be recycled and at the end of their life cycle used to generate bioenergy.

We do it actively
We are actively working to cut our green house gas emissions. We have set a CO2 reduction target of 35% by 2025. This will be achieved by increasing the already high share of bioenergy in internal energy production, improving our production and energy efficiency, and decreasing our use of fossil fuels.

Watch an animation about materials and CO2 on our Global Responsibility website. Materials originating from forests (such as carton) are unique because they are from a renewable resource, can store CO2 and are recyclable.
