Our energy use
We purchase energy in the form of electricity and fuels from external suppliers and produce electricity and steam ourselves.
Improving energy efficiency
We put considerable time and effort into energy efficiency. We do this through innovating new solutions, improving our production efficiency and large investments. Improving energy efficiency is a key thing for us in order to reach our target reduction in CO2 emissions. These measures also improve our financial performance by decreasing production costs.
Boosting bioenergy
The energy Stora Enso produces itself for pulp and paper production has a very high share of bioenergy – around 70%. This reduces fossil carbon emissions from our products.
What is bioenergy?
Bioenergy is energy extracted from biomass, such as black liquor, de-inking sludge, bark and logging residues. Pulp and paper production creates a large volume of biomass fuel as a by-product, making our industry a long-term producer and user of bioenergy. We will further increase our use of bioenergy, particularly through innovation.
