Best sustainability reporter in industry comparison
Stora Enso was ranked number one at corporate sustainability reporting in an analysis comparing the world’s largest companies in the forest and paper products sector. Stora Enso had the highest overall and social reporting score, followed by Weyerhaeuser and International Paper.
The comparison included the eight forest and paper industry companies listed on the Fortune Global 500 and the Fortune 1000. Stora Enso was the only non-US company in the study.
Stora Enso’s strengths
Stora Enso’s reporting on emissions and environmental investments were recognised as especially detailed and thorough. The study furthermore mentioned Stora Enso’s efforts to purchase wood from certified forests as an excellent example for the rest of the sector. Stora Enso was also among the companies that had significantly improved reporting from the previous year.
“This recognition is important as it reflects both the good management systems we have in place and the hard work done at all our units,” comments Eija Pitkänen, Head of Sustainability at Stora Enso.

The analysis was conducted by the Roberts Environmental Center, a research institute at the Claremont McKenna College in California.
