Stora Enso has set an objective that each unit should have developed a social responsibility management system based on the Group's social responsibility principles, by the end of 2007.
All Stora Enso units develop their own social responsibility management system by prioritising key social aspects related to its operations, and developing related action plans and key performance indicators. By the end of 2006, some 49% of employees were covered by social management systems.
Part of the implementation process involves identifying and prioritising unit-specific social responsibility aspects, based on the units’ own business environment and stakeholder concerns. The aspects most commonly held to be crucial include business practices, health and safety, internal and external communication, and managing social responsibility in the supply chain.
