Sustainability requirements for suppliers

Almost all of Stora Enso's transport is carried out by subcontractors.

Managing sustainability spans Stora Enso’s entire value chain.

To facilitate a common approach and ensure a basic level of sustainability performance in its supply chain, the Group has defined requirements on sustainability for suppliers and contractors.

The main areas of the requirements include:

  • environmental requirements related to legislation, organisational responsibilities, training and instructions;
  • social requirements in the areas of business practices, occupational health and safety, and workers’ rights;
  • general requirements on supply chain management, provision of information, and co-operation on sustainability audits.

Suppliers and contractors commit to the requirements through purchasing contracts. Stora Enso enforces the implementation of the requirements through a monitoring system, that includes supplier audits.
