Help in a box

For nearly 20 years, Stora Enso’s products and knowhow in Poland have supported an organisation that donates high-tech equipment to hospitals in need.
Stora Enso has worked with the Polish organisation Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity (GOCC) since 1998 by using its expertise in cardboard to produce and donate money collection boxes. Over the years, the boxes have been made in different Stora Enso Packaging Solutions units in Poland, including Mosina and Ostrołęka. This year, our mill in Tychy in Southern Poland made and donated the 160 000 cardboard money collection boxes to GOCC, making it possible for volunteers throughout Poland and abroad to collect money for the cause. So far in 2016, over EUR 16 million have been raised for the treatment of children in paediatric and oncology wards, and for elderly care.

“Before using carton boxes, charity volunteers collected money in their own bags or containers,” explains Agnieszka Stolarow, Communication & Marketing Manager at Stora Enso’s Ostrołęka mill in Northern Poland. “The boxes with their unique and attractive design help the GOCC to collect money on the streets.”

“Stora Enso’s contribution to our cause over the years has been very valuable,” says Jurek Owsiak, the President of the GOCC Foundation. “We appreciate their help and hope to continue this successful cooperation for years to come”.

Engaging Stora Enso employees - and the community

The GOCC cooperation is not just about collection boxes but about long-term partnership that is also a source of pride among Stora Enso employees in Poland. Many have volunteered their time to help organise the box production and GOCC events.

GOCC organises a grand finale concert in Warsaw in January each year, and many smaller concerts are organised by volunteers throughout Poland. Stora Enso employees volunteered to organise one in Ostrołęka this January - together with the community. “Local volunteers of all ages and walks of life offered us their help, along with local musicians,” Agnieszka Stolarow says. “The event was a huge success, and was greatly appreciated by the Ostrołęka community.”
