Massive wooden materials like CLT and LVL play an essential role in building sustainable urban areas for the future. In order to increase the share and usage of our versatile wooden materials offering, we want to make material deliveries easy for our customers.

Transport made simple

Improving the service for our customers means good quality products but also quick and easy service and deliveries. One tangible example of improved service is the LVL (Laminated Veneer Lumber) stock placed in Ybbs an der Donau, Austria to serve our Central European customers.

LVL by Stora Enso is produced in Varkaus, Finland. Transporting goods to Central Europe takes up to one week.

“With the new LVL stock in Ybbs, we want to ease the ordering process of LVL for our Central European customer base. Through the stock it is possible to order also smaller volumes at competitive transport costs and with short delivery times,” says Gernot Weiss, Head of Business Line CLT at Stora Enso Wood Products.

Bringing LVL stock to Ybbs

The Wood Products Ybbs unit is in northern Austria and employs some 360 woodworking professionals. The production covers classic sawn timber and value-added products including glued laminated boards, balks, lamellas and CLT. The CLT production reached the first one million cubic metres in 2019. The number was reached jointly at three units; Ybbs and Bad St. Leonhard in Austria, and Gruvön, Sweden.

LVl transport

In Central Europe, Stora Enso produces CLT (Cross Laminated Timber) that is also a familiar product for Central European customers. LVL production started in Finland in 2016 to improve and extend the wooden construction materials offering.

“CLT and LVL complement each other and having them both in our portfolio enables a greater variety of solutions for our customers,” Gernot Weiss continues.

A growing interest in LVL

Customers have been welcoming new material with a positive attitude. “There has been an interest to add LVL structures in projects for some time already, but the practice has been too complicated with long supply chain and delivery times. Now we see more interest in LVL applications in new Central European projects,” Gernot Weiss concludes.
