Stora Enso has a joint operation, Veracel, in Eastern Brazil in the state of Bahía. There is a significant distance between Veracel and the Amazon rainforest where the fires are currently taking place. The ongoing fires have not impacted Veracel’s operations, nor do we see an imminent risk of this due to the distance and different land use patterns in the state of Bahía.
Veracel never converts rainforest into plantations. Conservation of the Atlantic rainforest is an important part of Veracel’s operations – approximately half of the land is dedicated to preserving and restoring rainforest.
