are emphasised throughout Stora Enso’s corporate governance, starting from our Board of Directors, the CEO and our Group Leadership Team.

Governance on Sustainability

​Our CEO and our Group Leadership Team (GLT) are ultimately responsible for Stora Enso’s strategies on Sustainability and Ethics, and related key performance indicators and policies. They also monitor and assess their implementation.


The Board of Directors’ Sustainability and Ethics Committee
Stora Enso Board of Directors' Sustainability and Ethics Committee is responsible for overseeingour sustainability and ethical business conduct, our strive to be a responsible corporate citizen, and our contribution to sustainable development. The Committee regularly reviews Stora Enso’s Sustainability Strategy and Ethics and Compliance Strategy and, in accordance with our corporate governance structure, oversees their effective implementation. In its work the Committee takes into consideration Stora Enso’s Purpose and Values as well as Code of Conduct and Business Practice Policy.

The Committee comprises two to four Board members who are nominated annually by the Board. The members are independent of and not affiliated with Stora Enso. At least one Committee member is expected to have sufficient prior knowledge and experience in handling responsibility and ethics matters. 


Ethics and Compliance Management Committee
Stora Enso’s Ethics and Compliance Management Committee supervises and monitors legal and regulatory compliance-related policies, implementation, and maintenance of processes and tools regarding the same, and concrete compliance issues and cases in the field of business practices. The Ethics and Compliance Management Committee consists of the General Counsel (chairman), CEO, CFO, Head of HR, Head of Internal Audit and the Legal Counsel dedicated to compliance matters. The Ethics and Compliance Management Committee shall convene at least four times every year.
