Seedlings for medallists and visitors

Stora Enso continues its tradition to provide spruce seedlings for the winning athletes in the seedling ceremony. With the seedlings, Stora Enso wants to show that great achievements start small. Seedlings can be a lasting and sustainable reminder of athletes’ success.

The seedlings are given to the medallists in a corrugated cardboard box. The packaging had to be leak-proof, so that no moisture from the seedling soil would get through the packaging. In addition, the leak-proof packaging allows the seedling to be watered.

We are also handing out 10,000 seedlings in smaller boxes to spectators during the 10 days of the championship.

The box is designed by Vilma Favén and Outi Honkavaara from Stora Enso Lahti DesignStudio. The seedlings come from our nursery in Nässjä, Sweden.

Trondheim medal box

Medal box

The medal boxes will be provided to winners following the medal ceremonies to store and safeguard their medals. This year, a case-like, stackable design was requested for the medals. It was also essential to present the medals beautifully while ensuring the packaging was user-friendly.

What sets the Trondheim medal boxes apart is the inclusion of a braille inscription on each box, indicating the championships they represent. This feature aligns perfectly with the themes of equality and accessibility for the championships.

The medal boxes are crafted from a combination of cardboard and corrugated cardboard. Outi Honkavaara oversaw the structural design, while Vilma Favén handled the layout.

Loc award box

LOC Award

In addition to receiving medals, the athletes will also be gifted an artwork created by a local artist. This piece is safeguarded by a package crafted by Outi Honkavaara and Vilma Favén, utilizing white EnsoCoat and brown e-flute corrugated cardboard.

The packaging design was heavily influenced by the artwork itself, ensuring it was properly protected. The large dimensions of the piece also played a role in determining the structural features. It was essential for the packaging to be user-friendly, allowing for easy opening and closing. The overall appearance was inspired by the official branding of the championships, while also aiming for significant visibility for the art.
