The new production site of SimonsVoss Technologies is built with cross-laminated timber from Stora Enso. Cross-laminated timber (CLT) is not only good for its cost effectiveness and speedy process, the wide use of wood is also good for the employees working inside the buildings.
A brand new production site has been built in Osterfeld, central Germany. The new production site of SimonsVoss Technologies was opened in May and is built with cross-laminated timber (CLT). CLT is a massive wood building material consisting of bonded, cross-laminated single layers. To use CLT is cost-effective as it can reduce construction time by one-third.
The new production site is divided into two 2-storey buildings, a production building with an attached warehouse and an administration building. Stora Enso Building and Living supplied the CLT solid wood elements for the project.
Working environment with a feel-good climate
The SimonsVoss Technologies production site is characterized by a sustainable overall concept. With ecological earthwork and renewable energy sources the use of CLT highly contributes to this.
In addition to the environmental benefits with CLT as a construction material, the use of solid wood is also pleasant for the employees. Inside the buildings, wood dominates the walls of the offices, the common spaces and the production area. Due to the wide use of visible wood, the building creates a stimulating and nice working environment for the entire workforce.
Residents in wooden houses show less symptoms of stress and live healthier lives. This effect is very desirable in industrial buildings because it also has positive effects on the employees working inside them.
The indoor climate in wooden buildings is healthier than conventional buildings because wood naturally regulates humidity. In addition, wood smells good and looks beautiful. Residents in wooden houses show less symptoms of stress and live healthier lives. This effect is very desirable in industrial buildings because it also has positive effects on the employees working inside them. So, thanks to the wood – The new SimonsVoss Technologies production site is a bit of a feel-good factory.
The way to a healthy factory
To be sustainable, aesthetic and cost-effective in the construction and operation was essential for the future users of the new production site. The timber construction material combines all these advantages. In the implementation of the industrial construction project, CLT from Stora Enso Building and Living was chosen.
The installed amount of CLT in the production site is 900 m3 and the construction period was between September 2012 and October 2013. The CLT solid wood elements were manufactured in the CLT factory in Ybbs an der Donau, Austria.
