Optimised Paper Handling and Logistics

Stora Enso is a member of a unique international cross-industry collaborative project that brings together expertise from across the entire paper supply chain from the mill, through transport, storage, handling and printing.

‘Optimised Paper Handling & Logistics’ is a generic best practice tool as a global reference for suppliers, transporters, converters and printers to improve their efficiency — whether sheetfed or web offset, gravure, flexo or digital. The book’s cover price is 250 € / $280, but you can get a FREE e-book download from www.ophal.info.

“Paper is handled 10-20 times and from when it leaves the paper mill to when it is put on to the press and every manipulation of rolls and pallets carries a risk of accidents and damage. Paper is a demanding cargo with a high economic unit value, requiring specialised techniques, tools and facilities for handling, logistics, storage and preparation for printing. The OPHAL guide was developed with insights from Stora Enso Logistics and Technical Customer Service together with all relevant parties through the supply chain”, explains Toni Ilmonen, Manager Delivery Quality.

“Once all the different users through the supply chain right down to our customers and converters have adapted the described best practices we will see a decline in damaged goods and a much more efficient use of our valuable paper products,” adds Martin Gercke, VP Technical Customer Service, Stora Enso, Division Paper.
