The ECO RFID tags by Stora Enso have passed industry tests for biodegradability, compostability and recyclability.

The tags were tested in the following categories:

PTS RH 021/97 Recyclability of Packaging Products

TAPPI UM 213 (mod.) Repulpability testing

EN 13432 Requirements for packaging recoverable through composting and biodegradation – Test scheme and evaluation criteria for the final acceptance of packaging (2000)

ISO 17088 Specifications for compostable plastics (2012)

ASTM D6400 Standard Specification for Labeling of Plastics Designed to be Aerobically Composted in Municipal or Industrial Facilities (2019)

The test results signify that not only can the ECO RFID tags be recycled in the regular paper and cardboard recycling process, they are also biodegradable and compostable demonstrating that the tags contain only environmentally friendly materials.

“Our aim has been to select our raw materials in a way that they enable us to serve high quality and top performing ECO RFID tags to our customers. But as importantly, to make sure we minimize the ecological impact with all our choices throughout ECO RFID life cycle.” Says Stora Enso’s Kati Vitikkala, Senior Manager for product Line tags.

The unique and sustainable ECO RFID Tag Technology by Stora Enso enables RFID tags to be produced on 100% renewable paper label, without the plastic layers or harmful chemicals found in traditional tags. The RAIN certified ECO RFID tags were granted the best product award in 2018 by IDTechEx.
