For those who watched the competition, saw that it was very windy at times. That usually spells disaster for start/finish gates, but the gates in Oberstdorf didn’t budge.
Created in cooperation with APA Adelfang & Parbel GmbH & Co. KG, Germany, the spruce wood gates are a symbol of reusability. First used at the FIS championships in Seefeld, Austria, they will make another appearance at the 2023 championships in Planica, Slovenia.
Stora Enso’s Sara Kvarfordh shares a fun anecdote about the gates: “This year a local fellow contacted me directly about the gates. He thought they were so beautiful that he wanted to re-create them for the driveway to his house. Such a wonderful idea!”
