Female Leader Engineer – Boliden, Fortum, and Stora Enso join forces to promote equal leadership in Finnish Business

Boliden, Fortum, and Stora Enso have partnered with the talent program Female Leader Engineer, run by the recruitment company CoGig, to increase the number of women in leadership positions within the Finnish technology industry.
Female Leader Engineer is a prestigious talent program designed for engineering students in the final stages of their studies, with the primary goal of inspiring more women to pursue leadership careers in technology. CoGig currently operates three annual talent programs in Sweden and is now expanding into Finland in 2025. The program will serve as a unique platform connecting Finnish businesses with high-potential engineering students who aspire to leadership roles.

“For the development of our operations, it is important that we have people from diverse backgrounds and with different ways of thinking. By participating in the Female Leading Engineer program, we want to encourage women to pursue leadership positions and utilize their full potential. Boliden offers extensive career opportunities, and we constantly need new, innovative perspectives, especially in areas such as technology development and advancing the green transition”, says Tarja Halonen, Corporate Responsibility Manager at Boliden Kokkola.

”We are happy to participate in Female Leader Engineer both in Sweden and Finland. For us, diversity and inclusion are key to a successful business strategy, driving innovation, enhancing people’s competencies, and to power a world where people, businesses and nature thrive together”, says Mikael Lemström, Executive Vice President, Hydro Generation at Fortum.

“We are excited to expand the Female Leader Engineer program to Finland. This initiative is yet another significant step towards making Stora Enso a more diverse and future-ready company. By participating in this program, we aim to attract and inspire future talent to pursue leadership roles in industry and technology”, says Matti Lielahti, SVP Operations & Oulu Mill Director at Stora Enso Packaging Materials.

”We are thrilled to join forces with Stora Enso, Fortum and Boliden as we launch our talent program Female Leader Engineer in Finland. I look forward to working together to increase gender equality in leadership positions," says Lena Larsson, CEO at CoGig.

The first edition of the program will take place in the fall of 2025, culminating in a prestigious gala in October, where one participant will be awarded the title Female Leader Engineer of the Year. The winner will receive a tailored personal development program via Anna Landegren and New Leadership to support their leadership journey.
