Psychological safety is the glue that makes it easy to speak up, share different opinions and express your thoughts. Having psychological safety in the team does not mean that everyone should agree, but it does mean that it is safe to disagree. Five years ago, we conducted a ‘We Belong Here’ campaign that laid the groundwork for us to continue building a speak-up culture where ethics, sustainability, belonging, and all forms of diversity are celebrated.
As an employer, we want to create a safe space for all. We know that all of us, especially individuals belonging to minorities, need support from colleagues. Those standing beside us are allies: people who support us even if they are not exactly like us or think like us. To ensure everyone can bring their whole selves to work, every day – regardless of where around the globe we work – we encourage allyship. For this, we have also formed Employee Resource Groups, such as the Rainbow Alliance, where people can come together.
We are pleased to see that our efforts are yielding positive results. In our annual employee surveys and feedback, individuals highlight that feeling valued by their community and working alongside supportive, motivating colleagues are among the top benefits of being part of Stora Enso.
