The Beihai Mill started operations on 26 May 2016 and is today one of Stora Enso’s largest investments outside Europe, with total accumulated investment of approximately EUR 1.2 billion (RMB 9.6 billion).
It is also the largest single Nordic industrial investment in China and a key contributor to the development of the Beibu Gulf region.
Today, the mill has an integrated annual production capacity of 600,000 tonnes of food-grade packaging board, 240,000 tonnes of bleached chemi-thermomechanical pulp (BCTMP) and 80,000 tonnes of polyethylene (PE)-coated board.
Its products serve a wide range of end uses, including food and beverage packaging, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and children’s books.
“With strong execution and continuous improvement, the Beihai team has demonstrated high operational capability. As we focus on renewable materials and consumer packaging, the Beihai Mill will continue to play an important role in Stora Enso’s strategy,” said Markku Luoto, Head of Foodservice and Liquid Board Business Area.
Over the past decade, the Beihai Mill has supplied around 4.5 million tonnes of renewable packaging materials, supporting customers with safe, high-quality solutions and contributing to the transition towards more sustainable packaging.
Over the past 10 years, the mill has continuously developed its operations and capabilities.
“We have consistently focused on safety, quality, efficiency and sustainable development while aiming to deliver reliable products and build partnerships that give our customers confidence,” said Zhigang Fu, Beihai Mill Director. “Looking ahead, we will continue to move forward with determination.”
As it enters its second decade, the Beihai Mill will continue to strengthen operational efficiency, advance sustainable practices and develop innovative fibre-based packaging solutions in collaboration with customers, partners and local communities.
