A long-term partnership driving the transition toward healthier wood materials
When Koskisen introduced its Zero Panel in 2022, the company became one of the first industrial manufacturers to launch wood panels bonded with Stora Enso’s bio-based NeoLigno® binder.

Today, the collaboration continues with the expansion of the Zero product family, including the launch of the new Zero P6 board — offering high-performance panel solutions without added formaldehyde or other harmful compounds.

The challenge

The wood products industry has long relied on fossil-based binders containing formaldehyde. At the same time, demand for healthier interior materials, improved indoor air quality and lower-emission products continues to grow.

Koskisen wanted to develop a future-ready panel solution that could combine performance, sustainability and industrial scalability.

The solution

Together with Stora Enso, Koskisen adopted NeoLigno® — a bio-based binder derived from lignin, a natural component of wood.

The result was the Zero product family: formaldehyde-free panels designed for furniture and interior applications, combining renewable materials with strong technical performance.

The collaboration has now expanded further with the introduction of Zero P6.

“Together with Koskisen, we have shown that formaldehyde-free panels are not only possible — they are commercially viable at industrial scale,” says Tuomo Heikkinen, Head of Business Development at Stora Enso Biomaterials.

The result

  • One of the first industrially produced formaldehyde-free panel solutions on the market
  • Bio-based binder replacing fossil-based alternatives
  • Zero added formaldehyde and harmful compounds
  • Continued expansion of the Zero product family
  • Strong positioning ahead of upcoming formaldehyde regulations

“We wanted to create a genuinely different alternative for our customers — combining sustainability, safety and performance. The Zero family reflects our long-term commitment to developing healthier wood-based materials,” says Riitta Ahokas, RDI Manager at Koskisen.

Looking ahead

As regulations tighten and customer awareness increases, the demand for safer and more sustainable materials is expected to accelerate.

The partnership between Koskisen and Stora Enso continues to focus on scaling renewable solutions that support the next generation of wood products.
