How a leading Chinese hygiene producer strengthened supply resilience

As demand for feminine hygiene products grew in China, a leading producer needed a supply chain that could support expansion while ensuring uninterrupted access to high-quality fluff pulp.

When COVID-19 pandemic-related disruptions caused significant delays in global shipments, maintaining supply continuity became a critical business priority. “The customer has grown quickly, which puts pressure on both volume and supply stability,” says Bruce Miao, Senior Sales Manager at Stora Enso.  “Ensuring continuity has become business-critical for them,” Bruce continues.

Working closely together, the customer and Stora Enso developed a more resilient supply setup. Planned deliveries from Sweden were complemented by local inventory in China managed through an appointed service provider, creating greater flexibility and helping buffer potential disruptions. This approach enabled the customer to respond more effectively to logistics challenges while maintaining production stability.

Three years after the collaboration began, the relationship has further developed: ‘’Our role has evolved from being one of several suppliers to becoming a more strategic partner,’’ says Bruce Miao. Through close cooperation on supply, quality and technical development, Stora Enso now provides around 60% of the customer's fluff pulp demand. The collaboration helps support the customer's growth ambitions and premium product offering while providing the reliability and flexibility needed in a dynamic market, strengthening Stora Enso's position as both a major supplier and a trusted premium partner for the customer's flagship brands.
