Stora Enso wins ScanStar awards for innovative fiber-based packaging solutions

Stora Enso received two packaging design awards in this year’s 2026 ScanStar competition. The awards recognized the functionality, innovation, and reusability of fibrer based packaging solutions developed together with our customers.

A total of 30 packaging solutions from Finland, Sweden, Norway, and Denmark participated in the ScanStar competition. The competition demonstrated the strong expertise and creativity of the Nordic packaging industry. Altogether, 18 winners were awarded.

–These awards are a great testament to how innovative packaging design can create value throughout a product’s entire lifecycle by enhancing in-store visibility, improving logistics efficiency, and promoting circularity. Creativity and customer-centricity are at the heart of everything we do. The best packaging solutions are developed in close collaboration with our customers, says Karoliina Pennanen, Packaging Designer at Stora Enso. 

Sievi shoe retail display stand impresses with its visual appeal

Stora Enso designed together with footwear company Sievi, developed the award-winning retail display that impressed the jury with its striking visual appearance and practical functionality.The display enables a two-sided presentation of products, helpings brands stand out in retail environments while making efficient use of space. 

The jury highlighted the solution as “redefining displays” thanks to its smart functionality and appealing design.

Halton radiant panel packaging concept 

Stora Enso collaborated with Halton to develop a reusable packaging concept for radiant panels used in a two-way logistics chain between the manufacturing site and construction sites. 
 
–The fiber-based packaging solution is designed to travel back and forth multiple times, reducing waste and improving resource efficiency while also lowering both logistics and packaging costs, says Miia Vettenranta, Packaging Designer at Stora Enso. 

According to the jury, the reusability aspect of the solution was especially impressive and demonstrated how fiber-based packaging can support the circular operations in industrial applications. 

Together with customers, Stora Enso aims to design competitive, high-quality, functional, and sustainable packaging materials and solutions, made from fresh and recycled fibers, that meets customers’ needs.

ScanStar is a joint Nordic packaging competition held annually since 1969 by SPA, the Scandinavian Packaging Association.
