Sustainable forest management safeguards forest health and productivity, helps combat global warming, and protects biodiversity - whilst securing the long-term availability of our renewable resource. Stora Enso is committed to sustainable forestry and only harvests in forests where a conservation value assessment has been carried out.
Based on our stakeholders’ concerns over forestry practices and governance in Sweden and in Stora Enso’s wood procurement areas in Northwestern Sweden, particularly forests around Lake Messlingen, we conducted a new assessment of practices in this area earlier in 2018. After completing the assessment, our conclusion is that due to high conservation values, harvesting operations in the area around Lake Messlingen are not in accordance with our policy on Wood and Fibre Sourcing, and Land Management. As a result, we have decided to refrain from harvesting in the area.
