Based in Helsinki, Marko Valkeapää is Marketing Manager for the Paper division. After completing a marketing degree at Aalto University School of Economics, he has held marketing, product management and sales roles in industry and consumer products companies, most recently as category and marketing manager at the Finnish beverage company Altia. He joined Stora Enso in his current role in 2014.
One of the focus areas for the Paper Communications and Marketing team is driving customer engagement by supporting sales with professional content and tools. Marko also has responsibility for marketing print media papers and managing the high-end Lumi coated paper brand.
“The aim is to make selling easier for our sales teams and buying easier for our customers,” Marko says. “We promote Stora Enso’s paper offering in various communication channels and continuously develop the customer satisfaction system ‘Voice for Paper’.” Teamwork is a key aspect. “It’s a small team so you need a ‘ready-for-anything’ attitude, which suits me well. I can always count on colleagues for support, information or just a laugh, and I feel this applies to Stora Enso as a whole. I’m happy to be promoting a material I believe in, and it’s great to work in a company whose values I share.
”The multi-channel brand programme for Lumi is a good example of the team’s coordinated approach. The sample books for Lumi have won both praise and awards, while the email and social media campaigns have stimulated great interest and achieved continuously high open rates. “I’m proud of the seamless cooperation between the marketing team, mill, technical personnel, sales, design agency and printer in creating the programme,” Marko concludes.
